Emanuel Lasker was a German chess player who was the second world chess champion. He was known for his positonal, agressive, calculating, and calm playing styles. He held the World Chess Champion title for 27 years. In his prime, Lasker was one of the most dominant players ever. He was also a research mathematician who was known for his contributions to commutative algebra. He wrote books and magazines regarding chess that went against contemporary approach. Lasker is additionally credited with developing the chess technique known as the three-game system. He made contributions to the development of other games such as Go and bridge. Lasker was also a philosopher who published many works on his philosophical ideas, such as Struggle, Understanding of the World, and The Philosophy of the Unattainable.
