Magnus Carlsen

Magnus Carlsen is a Norwegian chess grandmaster who is currently the world chess champion. Carlsen was the second-youngest world chess champion and has won the world championship three times. He is known for his incredibly strong tactical play, as well as his attacking, aggressive, intuitive, and calm playing styles. In the chess community, Carlsen is known as the "Mozart of chess." Carlsen's father first taught him how to play chess when he was five years old. He became a grandmaster after finishing second in the Dubai Open Chess Championship in April of 2004. His victory at the 2009 Pearl Spring Chess Tournament in Nanjing, China, with 8 out of 10 possible points is considered one of the all-time best tournament performances. In January of 2010, FIDE announced that Carlsen was the top player in the world. In November of 2013, he defeated Viswanathan Anand in 10 games at the world championship match in Chennai, India. Carlsen successfully defended his title in 2014 and 2016. In 2019, Carlsen won the rapid and blitz titles in Moscow, thereby becoming the first person to hold all three FIDE titles: blitz, rapid, and regular.
